Wally Olins in the chair

Manchester 20 March 2007:

Putting Wally in the 'hot seat' were

the following charismatic interviewers:

Alistair Sim, MD, LOVE
After failing to make it as an international movie star, Alistair further disappointed his parents by quitting Goldsmith’s University after only one year so that he could still go to the Hacienda every weekend. A series of fairly dubious jobs ultimately led him to the advertising industry and Alistair joined Tucker Clarke Williams as an account executive in 1993.

Rising to the dizzy heights of MD Alistair described himself as 'foolishly thinkin '‘I can do this for myself’' ' and decided to create a new agency model. Together with his partners Dave Simpson, Phil Skegg, Dave Palmer and a big overdraft, he launched LOVE in June 2001.

LOVE quickly made a name for itself as the lead agency on the 2002 Commonwealth Games and as a regular name on the awards circuit. The agency is now widely regarded as one of the most influential and admired creative businesses in the UK today. LOVE's client list includes Nike, ePlayStation 3, Yorkshire Tea, COI and Umbro. Alistair

is Regional Head of Development for the DBA and sits on the D&AD North West committee. Alistair lectures occasionally, but admits 'often quite badly'!!

Craig Oldham, Designer, The Chase

A First.

People always remember firsts. Their first word, their first step, their first kiss, and Craig admits he is no different.

While studying at Falmouth College of Arts Craig got a placement at Design Bridge– a first, that he says was gratefully followed by his first visit to Scotland where he spent some time working with Navyblue. After graduating, with a first(!) he returned to London and did a placement with The Partners before crossing the border and returning North, where he worked towards his first job with The Chase.

First undertakings in his new role as designer included working with the Manchester Evening News, The Football Museums Poetry Book and York St John University’s new identity.

And what he is quickly beginning to understand is that every brief is a first.

In Craigs own words, he admits 'I’m a lucky sod'.
