Martin Lambie-Nairn in the chair

Leicester 19 July 2007:

Putting Martin in the 'hot seat' were the following panel members:

Lee Wilson, Senior Designer, Jupiter Design
In 1997, Lee graduated with a degree in graphic design from Norwich School of Art & Design. Eager to start his career in London, his first design job was with Dewgibbons. Over the next four years
Lee had his first taste of working in the real world, designing for clients such as Procter & Gamble, Boots and Royal Mail, he enjoyed working on a good mix of projects from brand packaging to annual reports. During this time he was also fortunate enough to have success in the Design Week and D&AD awards.

In need of a new challenge, Lee moved to Radford Wallis – at the time a new agency created by the former creative directors of HGV and Radley Yeldar. It was here that he started to focus mainly on corporate literature and print. After a further four years, Lee decided to take a well-earned break and took some time out to travel the world. On his return to Blighty, Lee decided to return to his hometown of Nottingham, where he started to freelance for various Midlands-based agencies. Jupiter Design became one of his most regular clients, and he soon joined the agency full time and is there to this day..!

Mark Shaw, Chairman, Jupiter Design
The founder and chairman of Jupiter Design in Nottingham, Mark began life as a copywriter and spent many years as a creative director before taking on the role of Chief Executive. He is now non-executive, having appointed a great MD to run the business.

As well as chairing Jupiter, Mark is working as a brand consultant on the Design Council's Designing Demand programme, running corporate seminars on copywriting as well as guest lectures on copywriting to design students. He is also preparing a textbook on copywriting for design students and designers, to be published by Laurence King next year.

Adrian Briggs, Founding Director, Briggs Hillier Design
Adrian, a founding director at Briggs Hillier Design, started his career in the automotive and electronics industry, but was soon drawn to the fast pace of retail. Now with over a decade of retail design experience behind him, Adrian has been the creative driving force behind many new high street concepts and rollout programmes. With a meticulous eye for detail, and ‘retail practicalities’, Adrian has the ability to get 'inside' any brand and now plays a hands-on role in directing the Briggs Hillier creative, strategic and implementation teams.

Maya Stigner, Graduate Graphic Designer
Daughter of an English photographer and an Indian fashion designer, art and design has always been part of Maya’s life, so when it came to choosing what she wanted to do, she took inspiration from another relative, her aunt, an art director! It was then, at the age of only 14, that Maya knew a career in graphic design was what she wanted and from that point forward she started to working towards a degree that would get her one step further to achieving her ambitions. Maya recently graduated with that degree, a 2:1 in graphic design and is now preparing herself for the next step in her design career armed with a whole new set of goals. With a particularly strong interest and skill set in editorial design, publishing and hand printing methods, Maya is well on the way to achieving her ambitions in full.
