Being
an effective, satisfied and confident Creative Director
A DBA training course with David C Baker - the leading management consultant to the creative services industry in the US.
A two day interactive workshop
(4 & 5 December 2008) for anyone
within the design industry who manages the creative process.
This seminar was developed especially for creative
directors in design consultancies and it is crafted to cover
everything about being both an effective and satisfied creative
director.
Anyone who manages the creative process will find it to be
a must attend seminar, whether that person is a principal,
creative director, design director, art director, or just
someone soon to be promoted to a role that includes managing
people or the creative process.
During the two days you will learn:
- What
your role should be
- Whether you
are a good fit for it
- How to perform
well at that role
- How to adjust
for your own strenghts/weaknesses as you deal with creatives
- How to find
and screen good creatives
- How to guide
the careers of those in your care
Most importantly you'll be walked through the choices you'll
have to make in transitioning from doing the work to stepping
away from such a hands-on role, and why you need to let your
design skills wither a bit and work on your copywriting skills
instead.

Introducing David C Baker
David is the principal of ReCourses, a US management consulting firm that works exclusively with small service providers in the communications industry.
As a young boy, David grew up in Guatemala, living with a tribe of Mayan Indians until the age of 18, after which he moved to the US. He founded ReCourses in March 1994. Since then he has advised hundreds of independent firms and in-house departments, typically working with 40 new firms every year.
He has been a frequent speaker at nearly every industry conference in the US (including HOW, AIGA and MYOB) and a frequent contributor to nearly every US industry publication. He is the leading management consultant to the creative service industry, helping principals for a dozen years. He is also author of the recently released "Managing (Right) for the First Time".
David and his work have been discussed in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Inc. Magazine and Business Week. He also contributed portions of Cameron Foote's The Business Side of Creativity, and the new AIGA book on Professional Practice in Graphics.
