Our current
24-hour lifestyle is all about instant gratification.
We
want things now!
We
want them fresh and ripe.
We
want things to look nice and presentable.
We
want to take things with us wherever we go.
We
want mineral water with a sports cap.
We
want the world on a plate…
…but
is our lifestyle killing the planet?
Can
we maintain our lifestyle at the same time as reducing the
amount of packaging we produce, use and discard?
Can
design play a crucial role in reducing the landfill-mountain
or do we have to abandon our consumerist lifestyles completely
in order to reverse the trend?
Have
the media blown everything out of proportion? Has packaging
been singled out as a symbol of consumerism when really there
is nothing to worry about?
Will
you be shopping at the butcher, bakery and other local shops
for items hand wrapped in greaseproof paper or will you be
doing the supermarket sweep?
