Making the most of what you own
One question that crops up time and again in design companies is ‘What do we own?’.
Many creative companies follow the ‘work for hire’ principle which leaves you owning very little, and the client owning the rest. But if you don’t own the Intellectual Property (IP), how can you make the most of it, and drive more revenue?
This half-day workshop will take you deeper into IP and making the most of what you own.
Every company in the UK has under-utilised intellectual assets sitting in various places in their businesses, not to mention the assets and intellectual property they might be giving away for free. And the design industry is no exception.
At this workshop, Erica Wolfe-Murray of Lola Media will start with a snappy introduction to IP before working through a range of useful tools to help you recognise your own assets and how to retain them, examining different ways to monetise them.
This is fast-paced session and will explore many areas, ideas and ways to monetise assets as possible. You’ll get an overview of a range of different approaches to revenue generation.
As this is also an interactive workshop, we ask you to bring an asset from your company with you* for a supported team exercise. During this session you will discuss, develop and challenge ideas for each others’ assets, before presenting all these original ideas to the group.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of:
- The assets that can be found in your business.
- How to change your company thinking to ensure these are harnessed and developed in the future.
- How to work with IP.
- A toolkit you can use to help explore the opportunities for individual assets more thoroughly.
Plus: Take away the ideas generated by the group for the all the assets discussed, in order to apply same thinking to the assets sitting in your business.
What asset should you bring?
Although the workshop will be hosted under Chatham House rule, the asset you bring should not be top-secret. It could be a character from a brochure, part of an identity, a typeface, moving content, a contract, business process map, commissioned music. If you would like to discuss what you are thinking of bringing with Erica to assess its suitability, please email her at: email@example.com.
